Teacher's Apron---All the craze!

I haven't been able to work in my windowless dungeon, so yesterday I decided to get a little crafty :) This is my homemade teacher's apron that EVERYONE is sporting. I even saw Jennifer Anniston with one of these bad boys on :)

Remember this old thing? Its the teachers apron by Carson Dellosa. I'm telling you, teacher apron's are SUPER handy, you can put anything in there; pens, markers, scissors, pencils, advil, etc... no having to walk to your desk or a supply shelf to grab something. But sadly mine fell apart a couple years ago and when I tried to purchase one they were no longer making them. SO this year I thought I'd make my own!

It was super easy and lotsa fun. I just bought a $4 apron from Jo Anne Fabrics, an iron on owl, cute letter stencils and fabric paint!

TA-dah! The finished project! Ok, I'm off to try to get some work done in my classroom (hopefully)...I will post the before and afters once I finally get it put together :)

Colorful Deals for the Classroom

Today I stumbled upon the PERFECT shopping plaza near my house. I swear it was a teachers paradise! It had a Big Lots, Jo Annes, Michaels, Dollar Tree, Office Max and, of course, a Target :) I found a lot of good deals so I thought I'd share and some CUTE camp/owl themed stuff I found for my dungeon (i.e. classroom--long story about the dungeon reference....but that will be a whole separate post)
I found this as Jo Annne's! Its about 3 feet tall and the cutest fall door greeter. It was 30% off today so I got it for around $15! Yay!

This rug I found at Big Lots for $20. Ok, I know its not really a 'campy' thing...more a 'hippy' but it was SO COLORFUL! I thought I'd put it in the math corner with colorful baskets and manipulatives! AND the rainbow 10 tub tower behind it was on sale at Michael's for $34 dollars (originally $60 something). Yay for sales!
Clarence wanted to be in this photo :) He just loves the camera.  I found these colorful collapsable crates at the dollar tree, along with colorful card pockets!

Ok, the rest of the stuff wasn't on sale...but I got it to brighten up the windowless dungeon they're calling my classroom :)

These I'm gonna hang these over "Camp Read Alot!"

Check out this AWESOME turtle I found! I might put in the reading area too, not sure, but since our room will be so dark, this thing is perfect!

Also, I got stuff from JoAnne's to make a teacher's Apron--which, I hear, is all the rage these days :) I'm hoping the throw it together later this week, along with trying to make those fancy crate storage seats if I can find a nice young chap at Lowe's to cut the ply wood and direct me to a suitable staple gun. I'll post those projects later!

That's it for now! Tomorrow I go into my school since the first time since June! I can't wait to start setting it up. Once I get the official word from my principal about the dungeon situation, I'll fill you in on my tragic misfortune :)

Classroom Pics

So I wanted to post some photos of my classroom! I'm addicted to turning boring classrooms into magical learning wonderlands. Unfortunately our school makes us tear down our whole room but I still have my tree up and I'm going with the forest/camp look this year :) I can't wait to get into my room and transforming it to a first grade camper's dream!

Yay! My blog LOOKS like a REAL blog now!

So after blogging for a couple hours I finally figured out how to make my blog cute! I went with the owl theme since we're the happy campers this year and our mascot is going to be 'oliver the owl.' And I'll probably ending up calling us the owls since the acronym O.W.L's (oustanding, wonderful, learners) is just so darn cute. Anyways, I must do more blog research to figure out how to add more to this. Hopefully I can get this thing going before school starts!

my first blog

Instead of grading papers, writing lesson plans, or going to the gym - i made a blog! i feel like such a "techy." Not really sure what I'm gonna do with this blog... I'm hoping one day I can make it as fancy and as useful as those other teachers blogs...but for now I will just ramble on it til I can figure it out a lil more :)
